Instant Pot Apple Butter
This apple butter cooks up in no time at all. It makes a great food gift!
Ingredients
- 6 to 7 large apples I used Golden Delicious
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cloves
- 1/4 cup brandy optional
Instructions
- Peel and chop apples into 1-inch pieces. Combine apples and all ingredients into Instant Pot.
- Set Instant Pot to Manual, select high pressure, and set time to 10 minutes. Allow steam to release naturally.
- Refrigerate and use within a week or two or freeze for longer storage.
Notes
I love to use apple butter on a hearty, nutty, seedy piece of whole-grain toast, mixed with cottage cheese (my dietitian friend Amy's tip nearly 20 years ago!), or spread on pork tenderloin for an easy main meal.
This no-added-sugar apple butter gets its sweetness from fresh apples, apple cider and--brandy?! The brandy is the secret ingredient. Just trust me, you won't be able to pinpoint it, and it rounds out the flavor. You'll be glad you added it!
On the other hand, there's much discussion about whether alcohol evaporates during cooking, and particularly in an Instant Pot. Even if it doesn't, there's a trivial amount of alcohol in a tablespoon or two of this apple butter, so I don't worry about that. Just leave it out if you prefer!
